Every single person in this world prepares for something in the future. If you are in school, you are preparing for that day you graduate high school and go to college. If in college, you prepare to graduate college and get that 1st job! As an adult, you prepare for the day that you buy your first house, you get married, you have kids and eventually retire! We all are preparing for something to maybe happen in our lives here on Earth. The best example I have currently is this wonderful journey of preparing for me and my bride to be's wedding day. There are days we have fun, there are days we do not, and there are moments where it goes from being our wedding day to hers, which I know is usually how it goes so no real beef here! Anyway the point is, a huge part of the engaged life is preparing this one day to be perfect for her and I, but again mostly her! But the other part and even bigger part is preparing ourselves to administer this beautiful Sacrament of Marriage to each other. All the planning of the reception and honeymoon and guests and pictures or video means absolutely nothing without the MASS and the SACRAMENT!
So what am I getting at? The point is that we spend so much time of our current lives trying to prepare ourselves for something great to happen here on earth, for something to be perfect here on earth, without giving much thought to what we are truly created to prepare for. Here is what I mean. There is no perfect school, perfect grades, perfect job, perfect house, perfect wife/husband, children, there is nothing perfect in this world without the perfection of God's love found within the roots of our every thought, action, deed, and motivation! The only reason why being a youth minister is perfect for me is because God has made it that way for me! The only reason why Tracie is perfect for me is because God made her and I perfect for each other. Nothing we do here on earth is perfect or worth anything unless God has made it that way.
Today's Gospel tells us: "Come you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Our goal in this world is to prepare ourselves to get into Heaven! That is our main goal here on earth! We do this simply by having a constant and devoted prayer life to God, we obey God's commandments and rulings of His Church and we listen to Him for guidance and help in learning our vocation in life and actually going into that vocation, no matter how much we do not want to! The result for not doing this is very simple and Jesus tells us in this Gospel as well: "Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels."
So today, the choice is yours.... are you going to simply prepare for your future here on earth, or are you going to begin to prepare your souls for the eternal life that awaits you after your body decides it is ready to no longer live? God wants to you to be with Him forever, how bad do you want to be with Him?
